S. N. Jackson Memorial Pavilion

On August 21, 2023 work on the S. N. Jackson Memorial Pavilion was completed. This Pavilion was constructed with contributions from Farm Credit Canada and Annapolis County and will be used from a multitude of uses, including the Clarence Country Market.

In Memory of Sam Jackson

1841 - 1922

Dedicated on August 22nd, 2023

This Pavilion stands to honor ‘Uncle’ Sam Jackson, who dedicated his whole life to serving his community. He was a prominent figure in both business and religious activities, managing a general store, Postmaster, Justice of the Peace, Superintendent of the Clarence Sunday School, clerk of the Paradise and Clarence Baptist Church, and leader of the Clarence Temperance Lodge, held here at the Clarence School.

Jackson wrote the only account, in his book “Historical Sketch of the Paradise and Clarence Baptist Church, 1910”, of the original Meeting House dating back to the eighteenth century on the church property, as well as buying and preserving the former School House structure.

It is based on his years of dedicated service that the Community of Clarence honors him.

“Let it be the aim of the members, upon whom rests the responsibility of transmitting to the future the accumulated devotion and power inherited from the past to send the stream on in stronger and deeper flow” - S. Jackson, 1910
