Annapolis Valley Folk School
Annapolis Valley Folk School is a place of community based life long learning, nestled under the North Mountain in the Community of Clarence.
We are a growing community that gathers to learn through barter based sessions. We offer many different items from traditional trades, craft, animal husbandry, arts, food knowledge, gardening, computer classes, budgeting...really anything you can think of, we will try to find a facilitator.
Our community is full of extremely talented and gifted individuals that willingly give of their time to teach others here at the Folk School. Located at 1963 Clarence Road we are fortunate to have the two heritage building to utilize here in Clarence when a larger facility is necessary.
We celebrate our local talent together with concerts, potlucks and many other gatherings. We also use the glories surrounding areas to do hikes, history and geological walks as well as nighttime hikes and time on the river.
We partner with Clean Annapolis River Project for their River Fest in July to offer a variety of hands-on crafting experiences at the skills village, so watch out for that event as you will find us there as well. For the past two years we have supplied food to the AVFS Pantry located at 43 Lawrencetown Lane.
We have worked alongside the local school to provide lunches to those in need and also have the actual pantry open 24/7 for those that need to augment their food supply or even if you run out of something for tonight’s supper you are welcome to check the pantry to see if it is there. It is ran on a take what you need leave what you can bases. Food or monetary gifts can be given to Paula at 43 Lawrencetown Lane or to Maureen at 1963 Clarene Road. We have found a large uptake in people using the pantry in the last 7 months and so any contribution is greatly appreciated.
We strive to be an all inclusive place of learning while building a community together. We are thrilled that we have a wide variety of ages that come both to learn and teach here at the AVFS.
We are looking forward to meeting you and continuing on a journey of learning, and community building.
